Minister Pradeep Yadav emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering reliable services and meeting public expectations during a press conference on October 22, 2024. Highlighting the Ministry of Water Supply’s ongoing efforts, he detailed progress on various key initiatives. This includes the restoration of water supply from the Melamchi project, which now delivers 170 million liters of water daily to Kathmandu Valley, helping alleviate the city’s water crisis.
Minister Yadav underscored that field inspections and public consultations have ensured transparency and effectiveness in water supply and sanitation projects. In addition to expanding the water pipeline by 1,700 kilometers in Kathmandu Valley, the ministry has completed the construction of two large water tanks, improving supply in Kirtipur and Mahankal Chaur.
Sanitation improvements are also a priority, with efforts underway to repair flood-damaged facilities, such as the Dhobighat wastewater treatment plant. Yadav emphasized that flood-affected areas are receiving temporary water supplies and the ministry is working on long-term solutions to avoid future crises.
Throughout the country, 20 federal drinking water and sewage management projects are in progress, including those aimed at flood recovery. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring safe drinking water for all citizens, with plans for sustained improvements across various districts.
